Flooring

Flooring pack calculator

Plan whole flooring packs across measured rooms, with your pack coverage, extra allowance and clear surplus.

Add the measurements and product details you have. You can see the method and formula below the result.

Rooms and areas

Add every floor area you have measured. Use the Square metre area calculator if you need help working out a simple floor area first.

Same-product flooring groups

Only group rooms together when they use the same flooring product and pack coverage. We pool the areas in a group for whole-pack rounding; this is not a cut plan or an offcut-reuse claim.

What this does not cover: Material purchase-quantity estimate only — it does not choose flooring, underlay or a fitting method, or assess the subfloor, moisture, installation, product suitability, compatibility, performance or compliance.

Where the numbers come from

A quick guide to this estimate.

  • You enterMeasured rooms or areas, explicit exclusions and the group you choose for each included area.
  • You can change:The room or area measurements, explicit exclusions, same-product group choices and extra allowance you choose for each group (including zero).
  • From the product details you enterUsable coverage shown on each pack you are considering.
  • Worked out hereWe total only the included areas in each stated group, add your allowance, divide by that group’s pack coverage and round up to whole packs.

Measuring tips

What to measure

Add each room or separately measured floor area once. Use an area you already know or length × width, then take away only openings or unused areas that will not have this flooring. Group areas only when they use the same product coverage.

Worked example

See it in practice

A 12 m² living room and 6 m² hall share the same flooring. Taking away a 1 m² hearth leaves 17 m². With a 10% allowance, the group needs 18.7 m². If the pack you chose covers 2.2 m², that is 8.5 packs and rounds to 9 whole packs. Those packs cover 19.8 m², so the surplus after allowance is 19.8 − 18.7 = 1.1 m².

Before you buy

Three quick checks

  1. 01

Check the pack coverage on the product you are buying, not a generic pack size.

  2. 02

Recheck the rooms and exclusions you included in each group.

  3. 03

Only pool areas when the same flooring product is going into every area in that group.

Quick answers

Useful to know

Can I add more than one room?

Yes. Add each measured room or area separately, so you can keep the figures visible and decide which areas genuinely use the same product coverage.

What does grouped rounding mean?

For one stated shared product, the calculator adds the included areas in that group before rounding to whole packs. The comparison below it shows the arithmetic if each area were rounded separately. It is not a cut plan and does not promise that offcuts will fit elsewhere.

What pack coverage should I use?

Use the usable floor coverage shown on the exact pack or product details you are considering. This calculator does not choose a flooring product or assume a universal pack size.

Does this tell me which flooring or underlay to use?

No. It is a material purchase-quantity estimate only. It does not choose flooring, underlay, a fitting method or any subfloor preparation.

Method and checks

How this estimate is put together.

Calculation checked

Method version v1.0 · last checked 18 October 2026 · review again by 18 October 2027.

The calculation steps and rounding are shown and have been checked. Before buying, check the coverage, pack size or other product detail you entered.

Keep in mind: flooring purchase-quantity estimate only; not flooring selection or installation advice. This remains a planning estimate, not a design or approval.

Details that can vary: No universal flooring pack coverage or allowance is used. A group pools only areas the visitor has explicitly marked as the same product.

Check the product details: Usable coverage shown on each pack you are considering. Calculator.Shop does not choose or supply these figures.
